Marion Lafayette Adair (known to many as Mike or M. L.), age 85, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008, after a lengthy illness.

Son of George Bramlett Adair (1897–1976) and Ruth Dobbins Adair (1904–1979); husband of Edith Fincher Adair (1925–2011) for more than 64 years.

Served in the Navy during World War II on an LST (Landing Ship Tank, an amphibious ship that landed troops, tanks, and supplies on beachheads), seeing action from 1943-1945 in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific; retired from Transco, a natural gas company that is now part of the Williams Company; and was of the Baptist faith.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was much loved and respected by family and friends.

Survivors also include his daughter, Starr Adair Sellars (Bert); son, Dan Adair (Holly); two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sister, Lela Louise Adair (1921–2014); brother, William B Adair (1930–2013) and his wife, Joan; sister, Nelleen Adair Thackston (1933–2022); an adopted granddaughter; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Also predeceased by his brother, Maynard Eugene "Mike" Adair (1927–1995).

Graveside services were held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 5, 2008, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Cindy Adair.

Memorials could be made to Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg, SC.
