Per the family history notes of descendant Eva McCARTY,
Sarah was the only child of Lavisa LAY and James S BROWN.

"Sarah married a man by the name of John DAVIS and
they adopted as their daughter Ella Elizabeth DAVIS.

Family descendants relates "the possibility John Davis really is Ella's biological dad with a gal name Ida Weston as her mother who sadly later died w/her birth."
Acc/to the family descendant, "Ella loved Sarah and John very much and was treated as if their very own daughter, actually wanting for nothing being a sweet kind hearted young lady. The pair were fairly well to do, even had a piano for her and says all her teachers were lovingly invited as their guests to live with them, providing Ella with excellent extra educational skills and companionship.
John being an astute business man, enjoyed to serve as Councilman on the 12th Arizona territorial legislature.
He traveled quite allot with his job duties and even went west, where he very fortunately survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake."

Ella later first married James Robert LAY who was actually
Ella's adoptive second cousin, as the son of her adoptive grandmother's brother.
Ella and James later went to California, had 4 kids born there but later did end up with a fairly amicable 1920 divource.
Ella later secondly maried Henry Cummins, James had returned to AZ where he died and is buried by Lavisa and her brother Elijah.
