CHERRY BOX NEWS
The funeral of Mrs. Joe Cockrum took place at their home Tuesday at 2 p.m., preached by Rev. C. Staffin, pastor of the Dunkard church. Interment at the church cemetery here. Mrs. Cockrum was born in Louder (sic) county, Va., June 1, 1846. Died at her home Feb. 15 (sic), 1915. Was married to Wm. Stewart in 1876. He died in 1880. She married again in 1887 to Joe Cockrum. Mr. Cockrum had two little children when he was married the second time, Carrie and Earl. They were loved and cared for as tenderly as if they were her own children. Theyn both loved their step-mother and often remarked that she was as good to them as their own mother could have been. Her death was very sad to them, as it was to her husband. Besides her husband and step-children she leaves four brothers, Thos. and Albert, who live here; J. C. of Oklahoma, and T. E. of Bozeman, Mont., and three sisters, Iva Kinsley of Bloomington, Ill., Josie and Mrs. C. Gunn, both of Cherry Box. Mrs. Cockrum had been an invalid for a long time but kept her troubles to herself. She bore her last sickness as brave as she could, never gave up to have a doctor as long as she could keep him away. She had been a member of the Christian church since she was a young girl. She was a Bible reader and never forgot to read her Bible some every day. We can say one more home is sad, one more vacant chair, one more good neighbor and friend has passed to her reward, one more angel in heaven, one more beckoning hand to call those dear to her to her home with her. Dry your eyes, weep not as those who have no hope. Prepare to meet her, for blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.
