John G. Barker died at his home in Newport, IN, August 1, 1888, with dropsy. He leaves a wife and 2 sons - one of whom is married. The subject of this sketch was born March 1, 1834, and was aged 54 years and 5 months. He professed religion and united with the church just before he died. He called his family around him and requested them to live Christian lives, and come to him. He told them they could come to him, he would not come back again. He died in the full triumph of a living faith and went to glory. Owing to circumstances over which he had no control, he was buried the evening of the day he died. The burial services were conducted by G.A.R. Post, of which organization he was a member. The funeral was postponed until Sabbath morning, at the U.B. Church.
