Fall 1995 Yorktown Crier, published by the USS Yorktown (CV-5) Club. It was written by his daughter, Joan Cunningham, to inform the club of his passing.
"Bernard enlisted on April 30, 1941 and was honorably discharged September 26, 1944 with the rating of MM2C. From the Great Lakes Illinois Training Center he was assigned to the USS Yorktown until it was sunk by the Japanese forces. Then he was assigned to the USS California. Then hospitalized at the Naval hospital in Bremerton, Washington for two months until his discharge.
