Hannah was the eighth of nine children born to Elizabeth Sorber and George Rustay. On September 1, 1867, she married Andrew Jackson Crawford in Town Hill, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Justice of the Peace G. C. McWaine performed the marriage. The couple had twelve children: Millie, twins Dora and Cora, Ira, George, Della May, Alice, Byron, Charles, Ethel Eva, Lena, and another child who died as an infant.
