Obituary:

Life portrait of a preacher's wife, Anna Katherina Velte

Anna Katherina Velte, nee Bower, was born in Bethel, Mo., February 26, 1880, a daughter of W. C. and Katherina Bower. She spent her youth in Bethel. She attended our [this must be a Methodist publication] Central Wesleyan College in Warrenton, Mo., where she studied music. Here she met Wilhelm N. [here it says N.; below it calls him W. A. Velte] Velte. On 16 April 1903 she married him. Dr. J. H. Asling performed the ceremony with the assistance of the undersigned [i.e. J. H. Lemkau]. As a very happy married couple they journeyed to their first appointment in the vineyard of the Lord, namely Pueblo, Colorado. For nearly twenty years she shared with her husband the joy and sorrow of the preacher's existence in the following locations: Pueble, Colo., 1903-1906; Friend, Nebr., 1906-1909; Harvard, Nebr., 1909-1910; Denver, Colo., 1910-1918; Kansas City, Kans., 1918-1902 [sic should be 1920]; Denver, Colo., 1920-1922.
In the fall of the year 1922 Preacher Velte requested a sabbatical year on account of his wife's illness. A few months ago Sister Velte traveled to Bethel to visit her aged parents and her brothers and sisters and also to convalesce. Unfortunately, her health didn't improve, and on 14 December 1923 she died in the family home, completely unexpectedly.
Her marriage was blessed with two children, Willis Walter and Marguerite Ida who, with their father, mourn the early death of their mother.
Sister Velte was a cheerful, pious soul. she was always ready to do everything possible to further the Master's Kingdom. with singular devotion she worked in the community as a preacher's wife. She was raised by a pious family and knew nothing but service in the church from her youth onward. In the last years she suffered and for several years had no healthy days. Her death [literally "going home"] is truly a deliverance for her. She leaves behind to mourn her early death and to honor her memory: her deeply grieving husband, four brothers and two sisters. May God comfort our beloved brother[s] in their deep sorrow. Aside from the writer, those participating in the funeral services are Preacher J. Tuschhoff from Quincy, Ill., and Preacher King from the English community in Bethel. The burial will be in Bethel, Mo.
