Alma was enjoying her high school graduation picnic at Belle Island Park in Detroit, Michigan with fellow classmates. She was a student at Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio where she was living. On that unfortunate day Alma's celebration came to an end when she drowned.
Alma was buried in Toledo. Her dad and mother later divorced and at some point in the next 10 years her mother Ethel moved back to the Cleveland area where the family once lived. In 1940 Alma was reburied in Sunset Memorial Park. Her mother and two sisters have since joined her. Her brother Delmar is buried somewhere in Arizona and her other brother Orville is buried in the National Cemetery in Nashville, Tn.
