Mr George E. Letcher, Sr. of Ashville, died Dec 30, 1992 at his home. He retired as an electrician from Altoona VA Hospital in 1963, after 23 years. He was born Dec 6, 1917 in Blandburg, the son of James Harry and Kathryn (David) Letcher. He married Rose C Lesniak on Nov 24, 1937 in Ashville. Surviving are his wife, four children: George Jr, Joseph, Donna Troxell, and Donald; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters: Amy Moyer, Edward, Emma Braniff, Samuel, Thomas, and Marion Doktor. Mr Letcher was a member of St Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Ashville VFW. Mr Letcher was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 10th Mountain Infantry Regiment. He was recipient of the Purple Heart. Interment at St Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery, Ashville. (Altoona Mirror, January 2, 1993)
