Hazel Bishop Wade

Miller - Hazel Bishop Wade, 92, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1992, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Miller, with the Rev. Michael McCallum officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at teh church. Burial will be in GAR Cemetery in Miller.

A prayer seravice was held Saturday at Westminister Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove by the Rev. Colette Patton.

Hazel Bishop was born April 2, 1900, in Warren County, Iowa, to Charles and L. Belle (Tilton) Bishop. She graduated from high school in Norwalk, Iowa, in 1920 where she was a member of the girls' basketball team which won the school's first state title. She attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and Wessington Springs College graduating as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1952.

She married Percival A. Wade, Dec. 23, 1923, at Miller. They lived in Hand County before moving to Warren County where they raised their family. The returned to Hand County in 1945 where she taught school, retiring in 1970. He died Sept. 22, 1960.

She was a charter member of the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church and a member of Blue Grass Barracks VFW of Miller. She had many articles and poems published in magazines and newspapers.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita B. Wood, Lake Ozark, Mo., and Mrs. Merlin (Margaret "Peggy") Heinzerling, Spearfish; a son, Wesley, Eldon, Mo.; a brother, Paul Bishop, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Mona Steele, Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchiildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Lester and Raymond.

Her grandchildren will be pallbearers.
