Green William GANDY served the Confederate States of America in Company K of the 8th Florida Infantry. He has a government issue bronze military plaque on his gravesite.
He was a son of Max Whiddon & Laney GANDY. He was the husband of Sarah M. POLLARD.
Green & Sarah were parents to Catherine (married to Lewis Tillman TAYLOR, Jr.), Laney, Redding Blount, Robert Edward Lee, Sara Jane, William Green, Martha Ann (married to William Sellers TAYLOR) & Christianna "Tobe" (married to Thomas Gordon TAYLOR).
In 1877 Green donated the land on which GANDY CEMETERY was established for the use of his family and neighbors.
Many graves within the cemetery are of other C.S.A. soldiers.
GANDY CEMETERY is located on a rise surrounded today by orange groves. It is reached from Highway 60 by GANDY CEMETERY Road. This area is known as Connorsville and is near Bartow, Florida.
