Joseph Harold Newton, 84, of Holy Cross, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon. Born August 30, 1927, in Holy Cross, he was a former night watchman at the old Willett Distillery in Bardstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Roy Newton, Sr., and Mary Marie Newton; two daughters, Ann Sharon Bartley and Brenda Sorrell; three sisters, Cecilia Mattingly, Margaret Hagan and Louise Clark; and two brothers, Jack Newton and Roy Newton, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Louise Lyvers Newton; two daughters, Jo Ann Clark (Randy) and Donna Sue Hensley (Danny) all of Bardstown; three sons, Chris Newton (Donna) and Lawrence Newton, all of Holy Cross, and Mike Newton of Edmonton; one sister, Jane Clark of Bardstown; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle will officiate.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
