DONALD STEWARD BALLARD Was born in Miami, Oklahoma, of Cherokee Indian and Scotch/ Irish ancestry. He attended schools in Oklahoma, So. California and Japan. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in post war years. He served on General Douglas McArthur's staff and later was Chief of Security and personal bodyguard to General Matthew B. Ridgeway, McArthur's successor. He did consulting work in Japan from 1953 until his return to the United States in 1958. From then until his retirement in 1982, he was a well known steamship executive on both the East and West coasts. He is survived by his wife, Willa Chloe Ballard, of Hemet, Ca., two sons, Michael of Potomac, Maryland and Edward of Burbank, California; one daughter, Mary Ann Mantes of Salt Lake City, Utah; grand-daughters Chanel and Savannah Ballard, both of Potomac, Maryland; daughters in law include Kellie Ballard of Maryland and Dawn Ballard of Southern California; also, three step-daughters, Vicky Tielens, Melissa Basler, and Robin Lachman.
