Guy Wilson Akers Jr., 90, of Dublin, died Friday night, Dec. 23, 2011 in the Highland Ridge Rehab Center, in Dublin.

He was born in Radford, on Aug. 5, 1921 and was the son of the late Guy W. Akers and Ida Rigney Akers.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Akers, and two brothers, Garland and Donnie Akers.

Mr. Akers was a retired employee of Celanese, in Narrows, and was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Doris Akers, of Dublin, and Roger and Debbie Akers, of Dublin; grandson, Aaron Akers, of Dublin; step-granddaughter, Jamie King, of Richmond; sisters, Irene Palmer, of Pulaski, and Georgia-Beth Rorrer, of Huntersville, N.C.; and brothers Royce Akers, of Charleston S.C., and Jimmy Akers, of Greensboro, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Stevens Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, in Dublin, with the Pulaski VFW Post 1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be held Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
