NAPA; Lupe Catherine Burquez, 75, passed away at Queen of the Valley Hospital on May 1, 2003. She was born in Salinas on Oct. 18, 1927, to Edward Burquez Sr. and Maria (Valencia) Burquez. She moved to Napa with her family in 1935, graduating from Napa High School in 1945, and began her career in nursing at French Hospital in San Francisco right after graduation. She also worked in Canada, Scotland and England. She was a nursing instructor at Napa State Hospital and she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from UC Berkeley.
She was a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Los Californianos and Paws for Healing. Lupe also belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She is survived by her four brothers, Edward Burquez Jr. of Watsonville, Herbert Burquez of St. Helena, Richard Burquez of Napa and Christopher Burquez of Richmond; and her two sisters, Amelia Johnson of Middletown and Ida Burquez of Napa.
A private family graveside service will be held this week at the Yountville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home.
