Clell Richard Bailey
GORDO Clell Richard Bailey, age 73, of Gordo, died Oct. 9, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Gordo First United Methodist Church with Dr. Billy Weams and Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Louis Springer.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Annie Pearl Bailey of Gordo, Ala.; daughters, Monica Bailey Byars (Billy) of Huntsville, Ala. and Paige Bailey Sharp (Keith) of Gordo, Ala.; mother-in-law, Nota Springer of Gordo, Ala.; grandchildren, Dain Dain's sweethearts were Emily Byars, Anna Kate Byars, and Maddie Sharp, Dain Dain's little buddy was John Patrick Sharp.
Mr. Richard Bailey was born April 17, 1937 to the late Clell Bailey, Jr. and Edna Roberts Bailey. He was a retired employee of Gulf States Paper after 16 years of service, a military civilian service personnel, a veteran of Desert Storm serving in the U.S. Army, a member of Gordo First United Methodist Church and a life long resident of Pickens County. Richard was a loving husband, daddy, and grandfather, who enjoyed life and people. Everyone that knew him loved his sense of humor and his compassion for others in need.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Mike Boswell, Alan Boswell, Dennis Boswell, Thad Stripling, Lance Stripling, and Heath Clements.
Honorary pallbearers are Ganus Carroll, Jerry Robertson, Gerald Hall, Della Sue Duren, Gerald Thomas, Booty Sanders, James and Daisy Floyd, Men Sunday School Class of Gordo First United Methodist Church, Wesley Sunday School Class, neighbors, former Gulf States Paper employees, Dr. Ross Vaughn and staff, Dr. Krishnamurthy and staff, and the DCH MICU nurses.
The family suggest memorials be made to American Lung Association of Alabama, 3125 Independence Dr. Suite 325, Birmingham, AL 35209, or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
