Marker has only the initials, J. C. and his birth and death years.
Apparently John's original monument had been damaged beyond repair and the metal plate from it was placed in cement on 5/22/70 by his grandsons, James Calvin Smith, Jr. and Edgar Lewis Smith. That date, along with the grandson's initials, was written in the wet cement.
