William M. Burris was the son of David Burris and wife Mary (to date her maiden name is unknown). David Burris born in SC, possibly the son of a William Burris who was the son of Charles Burris of VA. This William Burris left VA because of (gambling) debts and went to SC. The estate of Charles Burris of VA was sued to cover the debts owed by William and was cleared by transfer of land in the 'Kantuk.'

David and Mary Burris were divorced in the early, early part of the 1800's. David md a second time to Elenor Lacky in Madison Co. KY. They removed to Missouri where he died in Cass Co. David Burris' will listed 3 children by his first marriage as: William M. Burris of Texas, Jane Crowder of Texas and Nancy Martin residence unknown. Mary Burris never remarried. She came to Texas with her daughter, Jane Burris Crowder, the widow of James A. Crowder, Jane's sons and her son, William M. Burris.

I don't know at this time if they came directly from Alabama or if they came via Cooper Co. MO. Jane's daughter, Louisa Crowder married Caleb Martin in Cooper Co. MO in 1834. (I don't think she would be there at age 18 without her mother!). Louisa Crowder Martin, widowed about 1848, came to Hopkins Co. TX after 1850 from Jasper Co. MO. She married Josiah Baker in Hopkins Co. in 1853. (Louisa is my gggrandmother from the Martin marriage).
