She was born April 28, 1875, at Monroe, Utah, the daughter of Fannie Jane Beard and Frederick John Collings.
She was married Sept. 24, 1896 in the St. George LDS Temple to John Walter Chaffin.
She was first counselor in the Relief Society of the LDS Church at one time and was a visiting teacher for 40 years.
She helped take care of the sick throughout her life, often called to perform as midwife. Her hobbies were quilt making and knitting.
She is survived by four sons and seven daughters, John Oscar, Alma LeRoy, Lorenzo Addison and Melvin LaVar, all of Blackfoot; Mrs. William (Rilda) Humphries, Coltman; Mrs. Harold (May) Humphries, Woodville; Mrs. Victor (Verda) Jensen, Mrs. Edith Harris, Mrs. Thomas (Freda) Jorgensen, and Mrs. Homer (June) Johnson, all of Blackfoot; and Mrs. Hubert (Wanda) Creasey, Idaho Falls.
She is survived by 59 grandchildren, 115 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters Mrs. Don Mangum, Shelley, and Mrs. Jim Jennings, Rockville, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband in July, 1954, a daughter, Ada, and a son, Carl Edwin.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
