He was preceded in death by Bonnie Jean (Lane), his wife of nearly 50 years; his son, Lonnie; father, Edward Lee; mother, Frieda and stepfather, Frank Ellsworth; brothers Gerald, Jack, Lee and Frank, known as "Pat".
He worked for Clark Equipment in Jackson, MI and retired in 1982 after 30 years of service. He served in World War II. Doug was captain in the Leslie Fire Department and proudly served the community for over 40 years.
Surviving are his children, Valerie and Monty (Jenny) of Leslie, MI, Vickie Limberg of Haslett, MI and Douglas of Okemos, MI and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Lyle Edwards American Legion Post in Leslie, MI where Dad was a life member, on January 8, 2012.
