He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Silas Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He designated parking spaces on the church yard and was referred to as "The Yard Man."
He was united in holy matrimony to the late, Mrs. Callie (Jackie) Harris on July 14, 1935. To this union, five children were born. One son and one grandson reared by the couple preceded him in death.
He was a loving provider for his family.
Mr. Sharkey departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2007.
His survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Bates Micou of Kosciusko, MS: three sons, Mr. Henry Sharkey of Milwaukee, WI; Mr. John (Ida) Sharkey of Chicago, IL; and Mr. Kenneth L. Sharkey of Kosciusko, MS; two sisters, Mrs. Alene Gary and Mrs. Katherine Lewis of Chicago, IL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
