Louis married Mary Toth on 07/02/1898 in New Jersey, with whom he had two children. In 1903, he moved to Dorchester, Wisconsin. Mary was unwilling to follow him and remained in New Jersey with the children. He divorced Mary in 1905, citing that she deserted him. (Source: Clark Co. Clerk of Court)

St. Louis County, Minnesota marriage records show Louis married a Mabel Thompson on February 16, 1907.

His occupation being a shoemaker, Louis owned Skruvani's Cash Shoe Store in Dorchester, Wisconsin. Before that, he had owned a shoe store outlet in Madison, Wisconsin, which went out of business in 1907. (Advertisement in photo at right appeared in the Madison Wisconsin State Journal on 04/12/1907 and 04/13/1907.)

Louis and Frances (Wakefield) Livingston were married on 01/19/1909. Frances was a widow who had become a local celebrity by having placed an advertisement in the Eau Claire Leader (ECL) for a husband and received over 1,000 proposals from men, from which she chose Louis! Frances left Louis after being married nearly a month. (For further details, see Findagave Memorial for Frances Getsman.)

On 01/07/1915, Louis married Isabella Chmarzynska. They had an agreement that if she would marry him, she would receive a one-half interest in his shoe store. They were divorced later that year. The papers state that he'd had six different wives and all had left him. In 1917, there was a warrant on Louis for abusing Isabella. He left Clark county and went to Michigan. It is inferred that she received the business and sold it. (Source: Clark Co. Clerk of Court)

Louis married Elsie Gannon on 07/27/1921.
