Elmer W. Burton, 69, 2800 Mock Ave., retired Muncie fireman, died Monday at Ball Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Yorktown and moved to Muncie as a child. He attended Stevenson and Blaine schools an spent his entire life in this community.
Mr. Burton served on the fire department 27 years before retiring. Earlier he was employed at Gibson Ice Company.
Surviving are two daughters, Juanita Foster, Muncie, and Jacqueline Lappin, Eaton; his father, Earl Burton, Yorktown; his sister, Addie Belle Collins, Modoc; his brother, Eugene Burton, Muncie; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mary Townsend Burton, died in 1979.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Meeks Mortuary, with Rev. Roy Lee officiating. Interment will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today and any time before services Wednesday.
