She was born on January 7, 1913, in Richmond Dale, Ohio, to the late Edward B. and Ida Maple Stancliff. On January 8, 1935, she married William C. Oney. Together they had two sons, William E. and James E. Oney. All three preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son; two daughters-in-law; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece; and a special caregiver, Carolyn.
Ruth was preceded in death by grandchildren, Cynthia Benner, Brian Oney, Wanda Oney; sisters, Bonnie Stancliff, Nora Consolver, Jessie Duhl and Norma Stancliff; brothers, Fay, George, Harmon, Marion, Albert and James Stancliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster of the Ray, Ohio office. Some of her previous jobs included owner-operator of the general store in Ray, Chambers Department Store, driver for the Vinton County Schools and the Chillicothe Gazette.
Ruth was a 1931 graduate of Richmond Dale High School and an avid supporter of athletics at Southeastern High School where she was known as "Grandma Ruth". She was also a huge Cincinnati Reds fan.
She was a life-long member of the Corinth Church of Ray and other organizations including Vinton County Senior Citizens, Jackson, Vinton, Gallia, RSVP, Ray Senior Citizens, Salt Creek Valley Festival, Southeastern Booster Club, Rebbecka Lodge, 4-H Leader, Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday December 27, 2011 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Leland Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
