Tulia, Texas — Alvis Odell Miller, 87, died on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011 in Athens, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 30, 2011 in the Central Church of Christ with Mr. Bob Colson and Mr. Bruce Baird officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Alvis was born on August 13, 1924 at the home of his parents, Olla Cardla Jones Miller and Louis Percy Miller in Hamlin, Texas. He married Gypsy Remona Holloway on May 3, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas. He was a farmer in Tulia for 53 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gypsy Remona Miller on March 10, 2009. He served in the US Army during WWII in the occupied forces in Japan for two years. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Tulia.

Alvis is survived by two children: Richard Alvis Miller and wife Gwen of Athens, Texas and Sharron Elaine Story and husband Larry of Lubbock, Texas, one sister: LouVee Goolsby of Lubbock, Texas, four grandchildren: Brandon Story and wife Lisa of Aubrey, Texas, Shane Story and fiancée, Elissa Jackson of Colleyville, Texas, Tarah Miller of Athens, Texas and Jeremy Miller of Athens, Texas and two great grandchildren: Annabelle Paige Story of Aubrey, Texas and Gabrielle Elise Story of Aubrey, Texas.

Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Tulia, Texas.
