GIRL, 14, FOUND SLAIN; DATE, 17, ADMITS CRIME
Memphis, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The body of a red-haired 14 year old high school girl was found bludgeoned Saturday on a Mississippi river dump and police quickly arrested a suspect. Officers said Jerry Lynn Blankenship, 17, a Memphis service station attendant, confessed that he killed the girl, Carole Arlene Feathers, because she resisted his advances. Blankenship was jailed at Marion, Ark. The girl's head was crushed, apparently from a blow inflicted with a heavy tree limb which was found near the body. Police said the girl had double-dated Friday night with another couple but had left her date to meet Blankenship.
