Mrs. Mildred Kerr Jester , 88, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011. She is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her unwavering testimony and witness as a Christian spread not only throughout her community but also to her loved ones, relatives and friends. Mildred was a member of Berachah Church for over 45 years and faithfully studied God's word, leaving a spiritual legacy for her loved ones. On July 11, 1923, Mildred was born to the late Eunice and Lavenia Kerr in San Augustine, Texas. After attending Stephen F. Austin University from 1941 to 1943, she relocated to Houston and continued her education at Hermann Nursing School, Herman Hospital. Awarded an associate degree in nursing at the University of Houston, Mildred worked as a registered nurse at Hermann, where she met her late husband, Dr. A. W. Jester. They were subsequently married on April 16, 1945. After World War II, Dr. and Mrs. Jester lived in both Crosby and Houston, Texas, where they raised their children. She became a widow in 1970, when her loving husband passed away. Mildred then opened an antique shop in her beloved Heights. In the last twenty years of her life, she became a porcelain artist and teacher; many people have enjoyed her art. She was a lifetime member of the Stephen F. Austin Alumni Association and a member of the HBU Women's Auxiliary. Mrs. Jester is predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. A.W. Jester; her parents-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Jester; and three siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Marmion, and son-in-law, Stephen A. Marmion; her son, Thomas L. Jester, and daughter-in-law, Debra Jester; her son, Robert W. Jester; her sister, Billie Clotiaux, and her brother-in-law, Don Clotiaux; her sister-in-law, Karlyne Kerr; her grandson, Todd Marmion; her great-grandson, Maric Gillespie; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2011, at Berachah Church, 2815 Sage Road, Houston, Texas. Donations may be made to Berachah Church, R. B. Thieme, Jr. Bible Ministries, South Texas Children's Home, or Baylor College or Medicine.
