OBITUARY:
Portage - Joseph D. Allen, 74, died last night in a Malad hospital of a heart ailment. His wife had died Thursday after numerous blood transfusions failed to save her life. He was born April 27, 1883, in Portage, a son of Joseph and Mary Jane jones Allen. He was reared and educated in Portage and spent his entire life here. He was an elder in the Portage LDS Ward and was a ward teacher. Survivors include nine sons and daughters, Ellis L. Allen, Portage; John W. Allen, Riverside; Mrs. Ray (Edna) Tippet and Ralph L. Allen, both of Ogden; Mrs. Eugene (Fay) Bingham and K. Leon Allen, both of Roy; Golden L. Allen, Centerville; Mrs. Newell (Hazel) Udy and Joseph C. Allen, both of Salt Lake City; 46 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Ekins, California; Mrs. Perl McCrary, Portage, and Mrs. Rachel Gurr, Ogden. Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Allen will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Portage LDS Ward chapel by Bishop Walter Gibbs. Friends may call tonight from 6 to 9 at the Rogers Mortuary in Tremonton and tomorrow from 10 until time of services at the Relief Society Room in the Portage Ward. Burial will be in the Portage Cemetery.
