Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Union Army in Company G, 132d New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on February 1, 1864 at Bachelor's Creek, North Carolina. His citation reads "With a command of 11 men, on picket, resisted the attack of an overwhelming force of the enemy."
