Graveside services for Bettye Jean Burks, 78, of Slaton will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in the Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, TX. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home.
She passed away on December 20, 2011.
Bettye Jean was born February 15, 1933 in Slaton, TX to John R. and Florence Childress. She was raised in Slaton and graduated Slaton High School; later in life she served on the Slaton School Board. She was a longtime employee of Fields and Company. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Loved ones include her sons, Thomas Jay Burks of Carmel Valley, CA, James Michael Burks of Waxahachie, TX and William H. Burks of Slaton, TX; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
When Bettye was not singing or painting, she spent her time reading.
