MULLINS - Cordie Altman, 48, of Mullins, was found dead on the Seaboard railway track near Gapway Street early this morning. He had left his home nearby early last night and relatives looking for him had failed to locate him until his body was discovered. He had evidently been dead only a short time, as the body was not rigid, and he was still bleeding from a severe wound on the head.
An inquest was held this afternoon, the jury finding that he came to his death from unknown causes. Suppositions are that he was struck and killed by a freight train, although others are of the opinion that he was killed by some person.
He had suffered a stroke a year ago, and his health was not good.
Funeral services will be held at the cemetery tomorrow morning at 10:30.
Surviving him are his wife, the former Mrs. Rushing, two children, Hazel and Erskine Altman; three stepchildren, Bernard and Levoe Rushing and Mrs. Estelle Elliott; and one brother, Henry Altman.
