Mrs. Mary P. Jefferson, of Thonotosassa, member of a pioneer Hillsborough County family, died yesterday afternoon in a Dade City hospital at the age of 72. Born on the west side of Lake Thonotosassa June 8, 1882, Mrs. Jefferson spent her lifetime in the vicinity, never leaving the state of Florida. She was a daughter of W. Clint Davis, one of the county's famed Davis twins, who died in January, 1949, at the age of 93. Her great-grandparents, William and Emaline Miley, were the first white settlers on Lake Thonotosassa, living on the site of an old Indian village, on the south shore of the lake. Her mother's maiden name was Pollock, and in 1901 she was married to W. L. Jefferson, who survives. From the union were born seven children, all of whom reside in this state. The Jeffersons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 5, 1951. Mrs. Jefferson was a member of the Hillsborough Methodist Church. In addition to Mr. Jefferson, she is survived by three brothers, Martin Davis and Edd Davis, both of Thonotosassa, and W. Bruce Davis, Tampa; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Kinard and Mrs. Ruby Wilson, both of East Thonotosassa, and Mrs. James Flynn, Tampa; four daughters, Mrs. J. R. L. Kelly, Sebring; Mrs. H. C. Young, Dade City, and Mrs. C. H. Burt and Mrs. John W. Edenfield, Tampa; three sons, Thomas (Pete) Jefferson, Tampa, and Charles C. (Carl) Jefferson, and William Jefferson, Thonotosassa; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial will take place at the West Thonotosassa Cemetery.
