JEFFERSON EDWARD DEAN, JR.
June 5, 1925 ~ December 14, 2011

Two weeks ago, a granddaughter asked, "What do you want for Christmas, Grandpa?" He replied, "I don't want anything for Christmas. I'm not going to be here." She asked, "Why not?" He replied, "I'm going to be dancing with your Grandmother in Heaven for Christmas."

On December 14, 2011, God took one special Dad, Grandfather and friend home to His eternal Heaven to be with Him and his beautiful soul mate, Bernadine Dean, who six and half weeks ago was taken, Oct. 20, 2011. Though we were not ready, we realize we could never be ready, but once again, a 1000 years would never be enough.

On June 5, 1925, God brought Jefferson Edward Dean into this world. He blessed Jefferson and Mary Dean with this beautiful baby boy. He was the youngest of seven siblings. He was raised in Baker, Oregon and moved to Portland, Oregon to go to high school.

He joined the Marine Corp at 17 years of age, to fight for our country during WW II and went on to fight in the Korean War.

In 1958, Jefferson became a Policeman for the Vancouver Police Department in Vancouver, Washington, 24 years later, retired as a Sargent in 1982. On his days off, he was a Longshoreman.

Jefferson lived by two mottos, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." and "Once a Policeman, always a Policeman."

There are so many tributes to Jefferson there is no way we could list them all. His honor, loyalty and integrity to God, his country and family and friends are beyond words to say. No one could walk away from him without feeling touched by him.

At 22 years of age, God blessed him with his one and only true love, Bernadine for 64 wonderful, eventful years.

The story goes - The minute he saw her at Hunt's Ice Cream Parlor, he couldn't live without her, and so three months later, they eloped in Stevenson, WA. Soon after, God gave them the greatest blessing he could, a son, John Dean, to soon be followed by more blessings, a daughter, Linda Dean Downing, and in God's great wisdom, He blessed them with Cary Dean and their baby, Kelsy Dean.

God knew that Jefferson and Bernadine had so much more to give, so He blessed them with a gift to share their love and hearts with anyone who came into their lives. Jefferson and Bernadine also loved helping with raising many of their grandkids-not as grandkids, but as their own kids. Though their love was endless, their grandkids hated sharing them, every grandkid thought they were "the favorite". DeAnna, Denise, Conner, Taylor and Bailey, from their fine son, John Dean; Rebekah, Cherie and Heidi were their blessings from their only daughter, Linda; Jerret and Jeremy were the gift from their beloved son, Cary; and last, Kelsy Raymond and Nikki, was gifted from their youngest son, Kelsy and don't forget the 19 great-grandchildren. Jefferson has one surviving brother, Robert Dean; there are many other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends, too numerous to mention that he was so loved by.
Jefferson loved traveling, fishing, swimming and site seeing with family and friends.

Even though he was a great Marine and Policeman, he was also the greatest Dad and Grandfather that God could have blessed his family with.

"Merry Christmas Dad, Grandpa and friend", Jesus gave you the one gift you asked for and that was to be with your beautiful Bernadine for Christmas and dance in Heaven forever and eternity."

A memorial service to honor Jefferson and his wonderful life was held at New Heights Church, 7913 NE 58th Ave., Vancouver, Washington on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Everyone was welcome.
