Man Who Drowned Attempting Rescue To Be Buried Today

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Louis N. Sparkman Funeral Home, Ross and Pearl, for Lee Preston Henager, 18, of 1912 Pocahontas, drowned Tuesday at Houston while attempting to rescue two girls in a swimming pool. Burial will be in Letot Cemetery.

Mr. Henager was visiting his sister, Mrs. Nettie Ray, at Houston. Although unable to swim, he plunged into the pool in an effort to rescue the two girls, also unable to swim, when he heard them screaming for help. The girls, Pauline Dempsey, 10, and Rosa Weaver, 12, were rescued by Elbert McWaters, 19, but Henager drowned before McWaters would drag him from the water.

The victim is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lillie Henager; a brother, George Henager, and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Quick and Mrs. Lida Burnett, all of Dallas, and Mrs. Ray of Houson.
