The death of William H. S. Allgire,
retired banker and prominent layman
of the Methodist church, took place
Wednesday, February 12, 1947, at the
home of his son, A. Claude Allgire,
4l4 East Main street, Westminster.
Mr. Allgire was a native and former
resident of the Hampstead district,
son of the late Melchoir F. and Julia
Ann Houck Allgire and would have
been 91 years of age next June. His
wife, Mary Katherine Barrick Allgire,
preceded him in death in 1924. Besides
his son he leaves one grandchild and
two great-grandchildren.

He helped to organize the Hampstead
Bank and was a director for the
first twenty years of its existence, and
for twenty years more he served as
president, resigning his position August
7. 1940, when he retired due to
his advancing years.

His father gave the grounds and
helped build the old Brown's meeting
house, south of Hampstead, and when
fire destroyed this structure, he gave
land and helped to build the present
stone church known as Wesley Chapel.
