Joshua M. Mehearg was the son of Willis Archibald & Sarah Elizabeth Perkins Mehearg. He married Florence Didema Hardy Nov. 5, 1862 in Marble Valley, Coosa Co., AL. She was the daughter of William A.L. & Mary Elizabeth Meadows Hardy.

The Death of Joshua M. Mehearg

According to Ella Mehearg Parker, his daughter, her dad came by her home to bring her a couple of rabbits he had killed while hunting. He told her that he had a terrible headache and would go home and lie down. Later that day on 27 Sep 1919 at 57 years of age, he died from a cerebral hemorrhage.
Ella's oldest child, Ida, recalls looking through the window and seeing her grandfather lying on the kitchen table being prepared for burial. At that time, the family washed and dressed the body before burial and then built a wooden box for the casket. Josh was transported by a wagon pulled by two mules to the Hatchett Creek Cemetery for burial.

On the 1900 Lewis, Pct 14 Coosa Co. Census records, Joshua was 38 (Jan 1862) and a farmer. His wife Didema was 34 (Sep 1866) and his children George A. 13 (Nov 1886); Lou Ada 11 (Mar 1888); Ella, 11 (Mar 1888); Docia, 6 (Feb 1894); Leona, 2 (Aug 1897) and their servant, Pink Davis 47 (June 1853).

On the 1910 Lewis, Coosa Co. Census record, Joshua was now 47 and Didema was 42, The children were Ella 17; Docia 14; Willie 9; Mollie 7; Stella 4; and Viola 1 yr 1 mo
