Solemn Rites Are Rendered Aged War Vet

Military Honors Accorded
87 year old Veteran
Major H C Andrus

Following one of the most impressive military funerals ever held in this city, Major H C Andrus 87 year old Civil War Veteran pioneer and beloved citizen of Aberdeen and Brown county, was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery with military honors Sunday evening just as a golden Dakota sun wheeled downward beyond the horizon's rim. Mr. Andrus passed away at sundown Friday July 14, 1932 at the home of his son Homer S Andrus and it was thought appropriate to hold the burial services at that hour.

The ceremonies were held from the Baptist Church conducted under the auspices of the American Legion in cooperation with practically all other patriotic organizations of the city. Reverend W H Dickenson pastor of the Baptist Church officiating and paying a eloquent tribute to the life and character of Mr Andrus.

Carl Gruhn, Mrs W J Harrison, Mrs T C Kirkpatrick and C C Alan made up the quartette which sang hymns that had been favorites of solider citizen and churchman during his life. Mrs J H Hughes accompanied at the piano.

Still more impressive than the church services were the ceremonies where the Color Bearers, Firing Squad and Drum and Bugle Corp combined to make a touching and thrilling burial service.

Organizations attending in a body were: American Legion Firing Squad, American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, WRC Ladies, Spanish American War Veterans, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, The Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Salvation Army.

Active pall bearers were members of the American Legion as follows: L H Spencer, J W Eakiins, C O Sanders, H O Renner, L F Douglas and Peter Klopfenstein.

Honorary pall bearers were: Frank Dewey, Frank Whitmore, Ed Osborne, J M McGrath, James Cochrane, Sydney Wilson, Gus Parsch, Ezra Baker, C G Anderson and Howard C Anderson.
