The Home for the Friendless, a private home for elderly, impoverished women was founded as the result of a fundraising campaign by Mrs. Charless in 1853. After her husband, the president of the Mechanics' Bank in St. Louis, was fatally shot in 1857, she moved to New Orleans, where she remained until her death. Her brother was U.S. Congressman Henry Taylor Blow.
