Letter received 5 September 1950 from the Adjutant General giving the following information:

The records show that one George Smith, born in Pittsylvania
County, Virginia, age 17 years, private (2nd) Company C, 46th Regiment Virginia Infantry, (also known as 1st Regiment of Infantry, Wise Legion and as 2nd Regiment Wise Brigade), Confederate States Army, enlisted 15 Dec 1863 at Camp Dismal, South Carolina, (also shown as 16 Dec 1863 at Adams Run, South Carolina). The company muster roll for January and February 1865, dated 28 February 1865, last on file, shows him present and no later record has been found.
