Walter Earl Cohen Sr.(aka "Mugsy") was born to George Cohen and Anna Morford in Cincinnati,Ohio. Not much is known about Mugsy in his early years. He married Alma Anna Bareswilt on June 5,1922 in Hamilton County,Ohio. They had 3 children,Walter E. Cohen Jr.(my grandpa) Ruth Ora Cohen(Vaughan) and Grace Cohen(Bailey). At the time of his death Mugsy had 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren..He worked for the Chessie System Railroad in Cincinnati. The last few years of his life was spent living with his son Walter and this is how i got to know my great grandpa so well..Looks were definently passed down through the men in that family as well as the name Walter(my grandfather WALTER looked like WALTER SR. and my father EDWIN WALTER looked like both..my nephew GAIGE RIEN WALTER was named in honor of all)..Mugsy was a tiny, smart, funny man who had a big heart! He always kept candy and Hostess treats for us kids but you always recieved them wrapped up in kleenex with a rubber band to hold it all together..(todays diagnosis would be OCD)..Another trait passed down through the men..He spent the last few years in his recliner watching soap operas. Almost blind he had to wear big glasses just to see a foot in front of his face, almost deaf he had to wear those big headphones to hear the tv,and so tiny(not 100 lbs) he had to sit on a air cushion so he didnt break his tail bone! What a sight to see...He yelled at the characters on tv as if they could hear him telling them that"HES HIDING BEHIND THE ROCK,WATCH OUT!".. And when you passed by him you learned to duck or he would tap you with his cane, your cue to head to his wardrobe for the candy he stored there..(5 ft. from his recliner and it took us 20 mins!)..My great grandpa will always be special to me and to this day a Hershey Kiss just doesnt taste the same if it isnt wrapped in a kleenex......Rest in Peace Mugsy...
