Norma L. Ellis, 85, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Wichita, Kansas.

Norma was born on December 18, 1925, the daughter of Thomas H. and Lura (Willson) Roberts at rural Erie, Kansas.

She grew up in that area and graduated from Erie High School in 1943.

She was united in marriage to Wayne O. Ellis on September 12, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas. He survives.

Norma was a homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and traveling.

She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as Deacon for many years, taught Sunday School and Bible classes, and served as President and Group Leader of the Disciples' Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Holly Study Club, the stitching club and Disciples' Women's Fellowship. She also enjoyed volunteering for the St. Patrick Store.

Norma is survived by her husband Wayne of Chanute, KS; two sons, J.E. Ellis of Olathe, KS, and Thomas J. Ellis of Chandler, AZ; three daughters, Pamela K. Thuillez of Chandler, AZ, Nancy L. Rowlett of Paola, KS, and Rebecca R. Jesseph of Chanute, KS; eleven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Max D. Roberts of Erie, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons in infancy, Lonnie and Larry; a granddaughter, Angela Thuillez; and a brother, Ray Roberts.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Chanute, Kansas, with Tom Eastman officiating. Burial will follow in Shaw Cemetery, Shaw, KS.

Memorials in her name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center or First Christian Church and may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
