James R. "Jim" Crissinger, age 61, of Marion, died early Sunday morning, December 11, 2011, at the Community Healthcare Center following a three year battle with cancer.
On May 29, 1950, Jim was born in Marion, Ohio, one of thirteen children of the late Harold and Kathryn (Zwolle) Crissinger. He had attended Pleasant Schools.
One night, while shooting the loop in Marion, Jim met the woman who he would share the rest of his life with, Brenda Jessie. They were married on July 7, 1973, and shared over 39 wonderful years of marriage.
With a love for the countryside, Jim enjoyed driving truck for over 32 years, delivering feed to farmers. He had worked for Vigortone over the years, winning many awards such as the 3 million miles driven award without having an accident. He was also well known at every Pilot station around, because he would drive up to 30 miles out of his way just to get a mug of his favorite coffee.
For many years, Jim was an extremely helpful son-in-law, helping his mother and father-in-law with their business at the Jessie Auction House.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Jim loved anything that involved spending time in nature. Every year, he would look forward to hunting at least one deer near the Waldo area. He was an avid fisherman, often fishing at the many campgrounds they would stay at with their camper. They spent time at Hickory Grove and River Bend Campgrounds here in Marion, and the Toussaint Marina in Lake Erie, where he was well known for building the very best campfire around. He also enjoyed driving around the campgrounds on his golf cart.
The best pool player around, Jim loved playing wherever he could find an open table and "no one could beat him". He often shot pool with his buddies, especially his best bud, Floyd Corbin. He also enjoyed playing cornhole, softball and bowling.
A little man with a big heart, Jim "would do anything for anyone", caring for everyone in his own unique way. He was a quiet man, until you got to know him, and was always happy and upbeat.
A many of countless accomplishments, Jim's greatest accomplishments were supporting his family and being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He also shared an especially close relationship with his beloved granddaughter, Emily, who called him "Paw-Paw", his nephew, Jeremy (Christina) Crissinger, and he felt blessed to get to recently meet his new grandson, Mitchell Shane Crissinger.
Including his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Crissinger; and by three infant siblings.
The Crissinger family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating his life will follow at 7:00 p.m.
