Maggie died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Maggie Iona Cooley was born May 9, 1917, in Graysville, Missouri, a daughter of William B. and Nevada (Johnson) Cooley. She was united in marriage to Clayton Guffey in Unionville, Missouri. After the death of Clayton in 1967, she married Wilbur "Dick" Mullenix in 1970 in Kirksville, Missouri. After the death of her second husband, Dick, she moved to Iowa to be closer to family.

Mrs. Mullenix retired after a 22-year career as a sales clerk with JC Penney.

During World War II, she helped in the War effort as a 3-plate welder on the Victory Ship in Portland, Oregon.

Maggie especially cherished the time spent with family. While living in Missouri, she taught herself to play the guitar and joined a band that would bring the healing gift of music therapy to nursing homes brightening the day of numerous residents.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Carol (Ronald) Ney, Gordon (Karen) Guffey, Davenport, Dennis Guffey, Des Moines, and Debra Guffey, Joshua Tree, of California; 11 grandchildren, Richard (Chris) Ney, Kathleen (Lt. CoL. Stephen) Ney Osborn, Steve (D'Dree) Leibold, Lisa Leibold, LeAnn Leibold, Travis (Jeannine) Leibold, Darrin (Jill) Guffey, Jason (Melissa) Guffey, Angela (Greg) Luttenegger, Jesse Young and Amy Young; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a beloved niece "sister," Martha Lou Jones, Kirksville, Mo.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, and 15 siblings. May they rest in peace.
