She was born November 27, 1922, in Council Bluffs, to Floyd and Clara Colton Batten and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, in 1940. During World War II, Elizabeth spent two and a half years welding in a ship yard in Portland, Ore., and one and a half years at Scientific Radio in Council Bluffs, making Radio Crystals for the military. She retired from Mutual of Omaha as a Supervisor after 32 years of service, on May 31, 1979. Elizabeth is a longtime member of Broadway Christian Church, Eagles Club, and The Center.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Clara Batten; husband, Phillip J. "Sonny" Massouris, in 1992; and her brother, Leo Batten.
Survivors include daughter, Katherine Taylor and husband, Mike, of Council Bluffs; three grandsons, Phillip, Brent and Shawn Taylor; six great grandsons, two great granddaughters, three great great grandsons, one great great granddaughter; sister, Evelyn Greenwood; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services Wednesday, 1 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Pastor Jann Osborn, Broadway Christian Church, Officiant. Elizabeth will be laid to rest with husband Phillip in Walnut Hill Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Broadway Christian Church.
