While serving as a Constable in Precinct 8, Tarrant County, Texas, he was shot and killed while making a stop on a van with two occupants believed to have been involved in a hit and run in Lavaca County, Texas. One man exited the vehicle with a shotgun after the stop. Constable Andrews ordered him to drop the weapon. Ignoring the Constable, he shot Andrews, knocking him to the ground He then shot Andrews again and fired at Constable Andrews wife, who was riding with him. She was wounded in the arm. Constable Andrews was survived by his wife and four children
Both suspects were arrested later and charged with capital murder.
