The Maury County native was the son of the late David Anderson Carpenter and Anna Campbell Carpenter. He was the husband of Lucille King Carpenter who survives. He was an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of Riverside United Methodist church. Mr. Carpenter had been employed at Tennessee Knitting Mills, as a car dealer and a courier for First Farmers and Merchants Bank. He had served as vice mayor of the City of Columbia for 12 years and a councilman for the fifth ward for 2 years. He was a member for over 50 years of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Service Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007.
