Leslie Coleman Southwood Sr, 87, Of Friendship House, died at 8:30 am Sunday after a short illness. He has worked with Chestnut-Salter-Best for 54 years. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He was born in Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky on April 6, 1893. He was the son of Champion F. Southwood (1863-1945) and Ann "Annie" E. Harvey Southwood (1870-1945). He was the husband of the late Chestena Swearingen Southwood. His beloved wife died on February 27, 1961. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son PFC Ramon Foster Southwood (1925-1945), who was killed in Action at Iwo Jima. Mr Southwood was survived by a Son Leslie Coleman Southwood Jr, a daughter Chestena Southwood Durham, a son-in law Charles Durham, a grandson Charles Leslie Durham and a granddaughter Wendy Jo Durham. His funeral will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home with the Reverend David Hilton officiating. Burial will be in the Bellevue Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his beloved wife Chestena.
