Rev. Alvie Dow Harrelson, 74, a well known Baptist minister of North and South Carolina, died August 2, 1960.
Mr. Harrelson was a native of Green Sea, in Horry County, but had lived in the South Whiteville area for a number of years. He retired last year as pastor of Brunswick Baptist Church, which he helped organize and build because of his health. He was ordained as a Baptist minister at his home church near Green Sea and served churches in Horry County, SC, and Columbus and Brunswick Counties in North Carolina for many years.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Fadie Rich Hardee Harrelson; three sons, Preston, Hubert, and Laverne Harrelson, all of Loris; and three daughters, Mrs. Dewey Hewett, Tabor City; Mrs. J.B. Huggins, Conway; and Mrs. Sanatha Hawes, Pompano, FL. Also surviving are a brother, George Harrelson, Loris; two sisters, the Misses Elneta and Dorothea Harrelson, both of Loris; two stepsons, the Rev. Billy Hardee, Elizabethtown, and George Hardee, Philadelphia, PA; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Albert Rich, Mrs. Calton Thompson and Mrs. Willard Bowen, all of Whiteville, and Mrs. Andrew Jones, Bladenboro; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
