DELMER PARVIS
Delmer Parvis, 98, of Grandview, Mo., went to be with her Lord October 3, 2006. Visitation is 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5, at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Rd., Grandview, Mo. Services are 10 a.m. Friday, October 6, at the funeral home. Burial in Paris, Ill. Della, as she was known, was born September 21, 1908, to Douglas and Angeline Hall. Her husband, Alvin, preceded her in death, as well as her six brothers and sisters. Her daughter, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive her. Mrs. Parvis was born on a farm south of Paris, Illinois and attended a small one-room school. Her country living influenced her values and principles very much. At around 19 years of age, she went to Paris, where she worked in various homes over the years. On September 4, 1932, she married Alvin Parvis in Paris. After becoming a widow in 1956, she worked in food service at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif., Forrest Home Christian Conference Center, Wabesa Bible Camp in Wisconsin, and later at Midwest Bible College in St. Louis during her daughter's studies at the college. Mrs. Parvis had a special ability to sew and made many of her own dresses and those of her daughter and granddaughter. Mrs. Parvis had the opportunity to make two trips to Venezuela and Colombia during Mary's service as a missionary. In later years, Mrs. Parvis lived in Paris again before moving to Prairie Village, Kan., near Corinth Square. In 1995, she moved to Prairie Estates in Grandview, where she greatly enjoyed her neighbors although she was home bound for the last few years. Mrs. Parvis is best known for her Christian testimony- her new life that began when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in about 1952. She was active in Paris Bible Church and had much zeal in clearly presenting the gospel to people around her. She was also always concerned for the Christian walk of believing family members and friends. Her church home in the Kansas City area is Blue River Bible Church. Memorials may be made to the Missions Fund of Blue River Bible Church, or to Bible Impact Ministries, at the website www.bibleimpact.org.
