When her sister Alice (born June 1901) was of age to begin school, Alice's mother felt that she was too small to go to school, and, to hold her back, said that she had been born in 1903. But since Kathleen had been born in 1903, she then said that Kathleen had been born in 1906. Both girls kept their "new" birthdates their whole lives. Interestingly, Kathleen and Alice's brother James really was born in 1906, but his birth year was not changed, nor anyone else's.
